Music as a Writer’s Muse

Posted by Admin On April - 12 - 2011

Hey, y’all! :)

Russ has graciously agreed to let me take over his site today.

As many of you who follow us both on Twitter know, I’m an indie author, meaning that I self-publish. My newest release is Code Walker, and more information on it can be found below.

The thing is, since diving into writing fiction and digital publishing, I’ve learned how important music can be to my creative process.

Which is cool, since music is the result of others’ creative processes.

Many of my stories have at least a theme song, if not an entire ‘soundtrack’. For example, Bodies by Drowning Pool is the theme for The Psionics.

Several of Russell’s songs have found their way onto the soundtracks of my stories. A while back, I declared him the Official Musical Muse for Near Dark, beginning with I Confess.

That song really chimed with the character of Ryder. To Be With You suits Tanner’s feelings for Killian, while Confusion really fits Killian in just about every area of her life.

Listening to music can help a writer set the mood for a particular scene, as well as make the writing itself flow like water.

For myself, and several other writers that I know of, music is an integral part of the creative process. It’s certainly helped me to become a better writer!

Thanks, Russell. Sincerely appreciate you and your music! :)
